Duck Day

On this somewhat arbitrary day, we give thanks.

Male_Aix_sponsa_portraitI was going to write something bitter and sarcastic, you know, the usual.  I was gonna call it “Thanksdicking.”  But a documentary on wood ducks changed my mind; I’ll wait until black friday to incriminate mankind.

On day two of their duck lives, the wood duck ducklings jump 70 feet from their oak tree nest to find their mother.  No nursing, no weening, just hawks, fox, and the neighborhood cats.  But the ducklings have got each other and their mother.  They take on life, as a family.

So whether you’re a diver-duck or a dabbler-duck, put your arm around the duck standing next to you and quack.
